BMHS Spring Show - 2nd June 2007

This year the BMHS spring show was held at Monnington court after a sudden change of plan. Despite the short notice most of the horses entered for the show still made the effort to come and strut their stuff in the first show of 2007. We travelled down on the Friday evening. We took 11 people and 6 horses down to the show, Landside Music Man (Harmony), Monnington Aspire (Aspire), Landside Music Lord (Lord), Landside Marty McFly(Marty), Landside Miss Dynamite (Precious) and BFM Dukes Debonair (Bertie).
We got up bright and early to feed the horses then once they had all ate we realised Marty had hurt his leg whilst travelling down so he couldn’t show. Then we all went and had breakfast while the horses ate theirs. We then polished the 5 horses up ready for the show. The show was to be judged by Chris Bickford from the USA and classes started at 9.30am.
Charlotte was the first to show Bertie in the geldings 3,4 and 5year olds in hand, in which Bertie was very good for his first show and got a 2nd. Next to show were Jess and Precious and Bryn and Aspire in the mares 3,4 and 5 years old in hand, Aspire really strutted her stuff and came 1st and Precious was very well behaved in her first ever class and came 3rd. Aspire was then shown in the mares in hand championship where she got reserve champion! Next to show was Tim and Lord in the stallions in hand 6years and over. Lord was perfectly behaved and came 2nd, he then went on to show in the stallions in hand championship where he got reserve champion, not bad for his first Morgan show!

Next were the driving classes and Aspire was to be shown in the maiden, novice and classic pleasure harness where she looked great and got a 1st. After a short break it was Jess and Charlottes turn to ride Precious and Bertie in the baby green ridden class. Precious was a very good girl and came 2nd and Bertie who was also very well behaved got a 5th. Then Liam rode Aspire very well in the best turned out class were he got a 2nd. The next horse to be ridden was Harmony with Tim in the road hack. Harmony went into the show ring like the pro he is and took 1st in the class. After this me and Jess rode Aspire and Precious in the maiden and pleasure saddle class. They were both amazing and Precious got 1st and Aspire got 2nd.

In the next class Tim rode Lord and Aga rode Harmony in the classic pleasure saddle and carrying on our great day of results Lord got 1st and Harmony got 2nd. After this Liam rode Harmony in his 2nd class of the day were he did very well and got a 1st. Charlotte then rode Bertie in the youth walk/trot equitation class. Bertie seemed to be getting the idea of showing and got a well deserved 1st, which charlotte was very happy about.

Me, Jess and Amy with Aspire, Precious and Harmony were then next to ride in the junior exhibitor pleasure saddle, 14-18yrs. They were all great again with precious taking another 1st place, Aspire getting a 3rd and Harmony getting a 4th.
Our final class of the day was the Morgan park, pleasure and classic saddle championship. In this Tim rode Lord, I rode Aspire, Jess rode Precious and Aga rode Harmony. They were all amazingly behaved as they had been all day long and Lord got reserve champion!

After this great day of showing we put all the horses away to rest with their tea and we all headed off for a meal at the Boat, which was well deserved after all the hard work, it was as tasty as ever and topped off the great day we had all had.
On the Sunday morning we took all 6 horses our on a nice ride around the Monnington orchards and grounds, they really enjoyed this relaxing ride which they deserved after their amazing performances the day before. After this we packed everything up and headed off home. Overall I had a fantastic weekend and we all felt we had a great start to the 2007 show season, we now can’t wait for the other shows this year! I would like to thank John and Angela and everybody at Monnington for saving the show and allowing us to use their facilities, everyone who organised and made the show possible, Gina and Bryn for allowing me to show Aspire and everyone who took part and made the show a success!
