Morgan breed thanks to Anne and Walter James at Landside Morgan’s. First of all Anne had let me and my two friends Jess and Amy look around and groom her horses we all fell in love with them, then she kindly said we could start to work and ride the horses. She had many Morgan’s but turned out in the field was a gorgeous mare named Dancer, I thought she was really nice and after asking Anne about her she explained she was very nervous and had not yet been worked as she had lost a foal a year before when she was a 3 year old.
I asked could I see if I could catch her and give her a groom, Anne said I could try so off up the field I went and with Jesses help we managed to catch her and bring her in. She was very nervous but after doing this a few times she got used to the idea and quite liked coming in for her daily brush. A month or so later I began working Dancer, lungeing and long-lining until I broke her in a year later. I then started to show dancer at Morgan shows and took her to training clinics.
Around this time Anne bought a young weanling colt of her friend Dawn he was called Elijah. He was also quite nervous but I thought he was beautiful so Anne said I could look after him and I started to work him. At the beginning of 2007 Anne explained to me how she wanted Dancer to have another foal, she asked me which stallion I thought was
best and of course I said Elijah, as he was only a 2 year old Anne had a think about it but she agreed and Dancer was covered in March.
She was due around the 7th February 2008. I got very excited towards the end of January as Dancer was looking ready to foal. Three weeks later and Dancer had still not had it so Anne got the vet out to check everything was alright on the 28th February. The vet explained that there was still a foal but he could not feel it moving at all. I was so upset about this as I thought it would be horrible for Dancer to lose another foal but much to our surprise at 9:30am the following morning she gave birth to a beautiful chestnut filly that was perfectly healthy, even if she will only have her 1st birthday in 4 years! We named her Martini and she is the cheekiest and friendliest foal I have ever known, nothing like Dancer and Elijah when I first met them.
I love all 3 of them to pieces and now ride Elijah and will show him this year, I cannot wait to ride Dancer again and I guess it will be time to work Martini before I know it, so I think that’s my future in Morgan’s for the next couple of years.Louisa Seddon
